We grind or rake out cracked, crumbling mortar to a consistent depth, then pack the joints with new mortar matched to the existing color and strength. Most of the joints we repoint are eroded, hollow, or letting water in. Once filled, each joint is tooled to match the original profile: concave, flush, or raked.
Tuckpointing
Tuckpointing starts with filling the joints with mortar tinted to match the brick. We then run a thin, contrasting line of putty or mortar down the center, which gives the wall the look of crisp, narrow joints. You'll mostly see this finish on older homes that were built with it, and we can also restore existing tuckpointing that has worn or washed out over the years.
